30,000 Illegal Immigrants Arrested

Federal agents who track down illegal immigrants with criminal records or who ignored deportation orders arrested 30,408 people last year nearly double the number arrested in 2005, U.S Immigration and Customs Enforcement announced.

The surge in arrests is a result of stepped-up enforcement: There are 75 teams dedicated to arresting these categories of illegal immigrants nationwide, compared with 52 a year ago. Of illegal immigrants arrested, 5, 434 had criminal records.
